The girls’ cross country team had a meet on Sept. 4th at Oregon Park with the varsity placing 7th out of 18 teams.

“Considering this was our first real meet of the season, I think that the team did very well,” senior runner Brynn Kirkland said. “Even though our times weren’t the best, we will only get better as the season goes on.”

The top runners from the Oregon Park meet were Kaleigh Inniss, Nina Fiore and Brynn Kirkland.

Coach John Deery said he is working to bring back normalcy to the team.

“My biggest goal for this season is to get the team back to how it was before COVID not with placing, but with the culture,” he said.

At a meet on Sept. 25th at Sterling, the girls placed 15th out of 17 teams. Kaleigh Inniss, Brynn Kirkland, and Ella Scimeca were the top runners for the varsity. Sophomore Nina Fiore finished 3rd overall in the JV race.

The girls have an upcoming race at the Peoria Invitational on October 2.
