Belvidere boys’ co-op swim and dive team took wins over Guilford and Auburn Feb. 9, and blew them out of the water more than double the points, beating the Vikings 142-63 and the Knights 137-68 at Guilford High School pool.

Belvidere outscored Guilford and Auburn by almost 100 points. The first-place finishes came from Jackson Hatch, Tergel Myagmarsaikhan, BHS senior Daniel Golonka, and Brayden Atkisson.

BHS Swim Coach Allison Smith said that she wants to make a shout out to Tergel, Jack Brown, and Liam Torbert for going 1-2-3 in the 50 Fly. Luke Magnusen dropped over a minute in the 500 free. BHS sophomore Declan Dwyer cut 29 points off his six-dive score in the team’s first meet of the season.

Dwyer said that the swimmers had a great start to the season. “Practice harder every year and you’ll do better than the kids that beat you last year,” he said.

Smith said, “I was extremely proud of their performance.”

The boys’ next meet is Feb. 16 against Boylan and Auburn.

Smith added, “One student got disqualified, so we are working on that student’s technique in practice to make sure it doesn’t happen again.  We have a swimmer returning from quarantine, so we are excited to be able to include him in the next meet.”
