Although Girls and Boys Basketball was postponed indefinitely, Boys Swimming, Boys and Girls Bowling, Cheer, and Dance started practices on Nov. 16.
In the 2019-2020 season, the fresh/soph Boys Swimming team placed second at their Conference meet. The boys have their first meet on Dec. 3 against Dekalb, starting at 5 p.m.
Head Coach Mrs. Allison Smith said, “We knew there would be some changes but were ready to make the most of it. Instead of having a conference meet at the end of the season, the conference champ would be determined by the standings of all the dual meets. This was something that could have worked in our favor, so we hope we get a chance to see that. We were sad that relays were eliminated, but we added in extra events to the meets to make up for it. We completed two days of practice before finding out that our season is paused indefinitely. I am crossing my fingers that our season resumes because I have never seen our team more excited and dedicated in my seven years coaching.”
The Boys Bowling team advanced to and competed at State in the 2019-2020 season. This year, the boys have their first competition on Nov. 30 against Rochelle at 4 p.m.
The Girls Bowling team had two individuals advance to Sectionals in the 2019-2020 season, which were seniors Danie Heinz and Paige Smith. The girls have their first meet on Nov. 30 against Dixon, starting at 4 p.m.
Heinz said, “This season is definitely not what we expected, but we are taking every chance we get to bring the team closer together and I’m hopeful that we will be able to bowl eventually.”
As Cheer and Dance do not have Basketball games to do sideline and halftime performances, they will only be having their respective competitions. The Varsity Cheer has their first competition on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. The Varsity Dance squad has their first competition on Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.
Note … As of Nov. 20, all winter sports are being required to cancel practices with a postponement of their respective sports.
