BHS Key Club will be holding the Soles for Souls fundraiser from Feb. 25 to March 6.
Key Club will be collecting new or lightly worn shoes for Soles for Souls, a nonprofit organization that distributes shoes and clothing to people in need across the U.S. and around the globe. There will be a donation box set up at the main entrance for students to drop off shoes.
“I’m hoping that the Key Club members and students learn that it’s important to give to people in our communities and to give to people in other communities as well,” Key Club adviser Ms. Danielle Turner said. “The idea here is to understand that not everyone is as privileged as one another.”
The shoes will be donated to locations that have partnered with Soles for Souls, such as DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) in Rockford that will be holding donation boxes as well.
“My favorite part about doing fundraisers is being able to give back to our community and everyone in general. It gives me a happy feeling to be able to give back,” junior Lizbeth Garduno said.
Last year, Key Club did try to start this fundraiser. However, it was too late in the year to do so and they had to cancel.
