Girls basketball defeats Rockford Christian

Girls basketball picked up a road win this past Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Rockford Christian, 40-32.

In the win, senior Maya Smith scored 25 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore Carolyn Salgado had 11 rebounds, while sophomores Stephanie Anacleto and Brynn Kirkland each had seven rebounds.

They also played a close game at Jefferson on Feb. 4, but came up short 39-32. Smith scored 11 points and added five rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman Kellie Onley had eight rebounds, with Kirkland added six. Junior Delaney Hausen added 13 points. Tonight, they host Rockford East at 7 p.m.

Boys basketball hosted Freeport on Feb. 5, but ended up losing 60-44. Despite the loss, sophomore Byron West scored 25 points. Tonight, they head to Rockford East to take on the E-Rabs.

Junior Nikolas Rhode said, “I think we have a good chance to win tonight because we’ve been practicing hard. Even though they’re a good team, I think we have a good shot to win.”

Co-op wrestling competes in the Huntley Individual Regional this Saturday, Feb. 8, in Huntley, starting at 9 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 2 p.m.

Senior Presley Beasley said, “I look forward to regionals because it’s definitely something the team and I need to do really good in to be put in the positions we want going into sectionals.”

Girls bowling bowls in the Rockford Guilford Regional this Saturday, Feb. 8 at Don Carter Lanes in, starting at 9 a.m.

Boys co-op swimming and diving meet for Conference on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Harlem.
