Boys swimming, wrestling, Competitive cheer kick off seasons

The Wrestling team beat Woodstock North 55-12

In other matches, the wrestling team beat Boylan 62-12 and Hononegah 46-33. Junior Josue Pizano picked up a key pin to seal the victory to help the co-op team to win over the Indians. Pizano, Presley Beasley ,and James Watson all went 2-0 in matches. Beasley picked up a big pin against Hononegah.

The wrestlers are back in action over Christmas Break at the Sciacca Holtfreter Tournament at Harvard Dec. 20.

In boys swimming, the co-op team beat Jefferson and Freeport. First place finishes came from the medley relay and 400-meter relay teams of Oryi Tucker, junior Daniel Golonka, Tergel, and Jack Brown. Brayden Atkisson finished first in the 200- and 500-meter freestyle, Tucker in the 50 free and 100 butterfly and Golonka in the 100 backstroke.

The boys swim team placed fourth at the Naperville North invite on Saturday. A special shout-out goes to Daniel Golonka for placing first in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.

The team will swim against East and Harlem on Dec. 19 and will compete in the Boylan Invite Dec. 27.

Competitive cheer finished second at DeKalb Dec . 14 in their first competition of the season.

Senior Addison Gunn said” Our first competition went super well considering we learned the rest of our routine at 6:30 in the morning.”

Senior Kaia Phimmack also said “We all walked in there not expecting the best outcome considering we had less than a week to fully do our routine but we held our ground and pulled it off and did very well.”

Cheer’s next competition is at rolling Meadows on Dec. 21st.
