The Scholastic Bowl team beat Belvidere North, Boylan, and Harlem on Nov. 13, bringing their overall record to 5-0.

The varsity team also beat Guilford by 270 points and Hononegah by 40 points at their NIC-10 competition on Nov. 6.

Adviser Mr. Stuart Teso-Warner said, “My expectations for the year are that we will finish second in conference, attend the NAQT Nationals tournament again in Atlanta in May, and hopefully win regionals for the third year in a row.”

The team has a few key returning players, including juniors Matthew Colson, Aston Martin, and senior Captain James Wiedow.

Wiedow said, “I feel like this season is going well so far. Our varsity team is undefeated and our JV team, composed of almost entirely new players, has won a few games as well.”

The team competed in a Novice Tournament on Oct. 12, where senior Leo Alfaro took ninth place individually.

Alfaro said, “I decided to join as a senior because I wanted to get involved in something fun and academic for my last year. I like it a lot so far since the novice tournament and I feel myself improving more and more each practice.”

Alfaro, along with seniors Viviana Carranza and John King, are first year competitors on the team.
