Belvidere welcomes new AD

Starting the 2019-2020 school year the previous Athletic director, AD, Mr. Tim Ballard is going to be stepping down and Rockford Lutherans AD Mr. Josh Sternquist will be coming to BHS to take over.

We asked Mr. Sternquist a couple of questions to learn a little bit more about him and what things he wants to change here at BHS.

How long have you been at Lutheran? Where were you before that?

Mr. Sternquist said, “I was at Lutheran for just two years. Prior to Rockford Lutheran, I was in D1 football for thirteen years. During that time I worked at the University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of New Mexico, and the University of Illinois. I had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest coaches in football and sharpen my abilities. I also had the opportunity to go to some great places and see some great games. Most importantly, I was blessed to be around some great kids!”

Why did you decide to leave Rockford Lutheran and come to Belvidere?

“Rockford Lutheran is a great place and my family enjoys the environment and people we met at Rockford Lutheran. The opportunity to come home to Belvidere and wear the purple and gold again was just too appealing.  After I interviewed for the position and met the student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and administrative team, I knew this was the right fit. Walking the halls of Belvidere High School gave me goosebumps and I’m very excited to be on-campus at 1500 East Avenue again.”
I heard you’re alumni of BHS what year did you graduate and are you excited to come back to BHS?
“I graduated from high school in 1999. In high school, I was a three-sport athlete and voted most athletic male. I was a pretty good student but could have done better. When I graduated I began my journey by attending Valparaiso University and continued my education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  I studied sports management and participated in football. The strong foundation, academically and athletically, at Belvidere High School helped me be a successful student-athlete at the college level. I am extremely excited to be back!  I am also excited to return and help our students on their journey!”
What are some changes you are looking to implement here at BHS?

“I think the best thing for us to do to hit the ground running is to sit down and speak with students and faculty and find out all the great things that are happening at Belvidere High School.  It will also be important for me to have a better understanding of the inner workings of high school. But, the one thing I do plan on putting my heart and soul into is really ramping up Buc Pride!  Growing up bleeding purple and gold and constantly being at the high school infused in me great pride for the Belvidere Bucs.  I’m hoping my energy will be contagious!”

BHS is very excited about this new change and we have high faith that Mr. Sternquist will succeed here at BHS, He will make Belvidere schools spirit shoot through the roof.
