Girls Soccer ends season

The girl’s soccer team ended their season with a loss as they faced Freeport during regionals on May 14 at Rockford Boylan Catholic. 3-0

“This seasons success was not measured in wins and losses but in the commitment and effort of all players who stayed in the program, “Coach Simon Stevens said.

The girl’s soccer team was led by senior Captain Giselle Lopez who has been part of the varsity team for four years and has helped organize and encourage players off-season. She was voted to be captain by her peers.

“She has tried to be a positive leader and role model for others over the last few years,” said Coach Stevens.

Senior Yoyo Gardner was voted MVP by her peers for the passion she shows for soccer on and out the field. Gardner also was named to the NIC team as a special mention.

“She is a quality player with game skill and knowledge who cares a lot,” said Coach Stevens

Sophomore varsity player Emily Mancillas said, ” Both are amazing people, on and out the field. They brought a lot of energy to the team and they’re always happy and positive. Both are very supportive and outgoing girls, like older sisters anyone could have.”
