The Belvidere boys volleyball team won against Guilford in round one of regionals on May 20 advancing to round two.  They lost against Boylan at East on May 21 to finish their season.

In round one of regionals, they played Guilford who they had beat before.  The score of the game was 25-15, 24-26, 25,11.  With the win, the team advanced to play Boylan in round two.  On May 21 in round two they fought hard but came up short with a final score of 13-25, 19-25.

“Our team did a good job of playing our heart out these past two games, and to be able to keep up with one of the top-seeded teams is an accomplishment in itself.  Everyone did their job and made a strong presence at regionals and we were able to leave feeling good,” said senior, Brandon Mendoza.

The boys season started with Math Teacher, Mrs. Kayla Goldschmidt being the head coach.  Due to her pregnancy and the maternity leave, Agriculter Teacher, Mrs. Ashleigh Fisher had to take over as varsity coach for the last four weeks of the season.  Fisher and Goldschmidt have had a successful season so far with this team.

The boys played Boylan on May 2, with a final score of 9-25 first set and 19-25 second set.  On May 4 they played at Auburn with a final score of 20-25 first set, and 22-25 second set.  Then on May 9 they played at Guilford coming home with a win, with a score 21-25 first set, 25-23 second set and 25-23 third set.

“They are leading with the best record in program history.  Our defense has been our strongest suit with digs and blocks,” Said Fisher.

Senior, Dylan Brooks, said he had a fun season with the boys and thought it flew by.  He is continuing his volleyball career at UW Whitewater in Sept.

The team finished its season at 9-11 overall. Brooks was named team MVP and captain. Mendoza and senior teammate Jake Ryan tied for the best teammate award.
