Lady Bucs kick off new season

Girls softball hosted their annual Quad Tournament over spring break where they split the games in the tournament.

In the first game, they beat Rochelle 7-3. Freshman McKenna Morris got the win. Freshman Sophia Hulsey went 2-3 with two runs and a RBI while Senior Mallory Gibbons went 2-4 with a RBI and two runs.

The girls played North Boone in the championship game where they lost 8-5.  Senior Britney Wingren got the loss for the game. Morris went 3-4  with an RBI.

“I’m very exited for the season to play with these girls,”said sophomore Paige Kitsemble.  “They are positive and they help keep my spirits up. I am hoping to win a lot this year and do well in regional.”

The girls also played Sycamore where they lost 15-0. Morris got the loss from the game and Gibbons had the lone hit for the Bucs as she went 1-3.

Gibbons won the “Radio 1330 Student Athlete of the week” award for the first week of April. She got it for her hard work on the field and her hard work in the classroom.

Gibbons  said, “It’s really cool to be recognized. I’m happy my hard work is paying off.”

The girls had another game at Crystal Lake South where they lost. Morris got the loss.

The girls’ next game is Monday, April 8. They play Boylan at home.
