Smith shoots her way to state

The girl’s varsity basketball team ended their season by losing to Rockford Lutheran 51-45 at Stillman Valley High School on Feb. 13.

Conference rankings include junior Maya Smith fourth in scoring, 14th in rebounds, seventh in steals, and fifth in three-point shots made.

Smith competed at Illinois State University on Feb. 28 in the state three point shootout contest. She made seven shots, but did not advance further in the competition.

Smith said, “I did not make it, but it was a good experience.”

Senior Rylee Abraham ended up fourth in rebounds.

Abraham said, “As a team, we worked really well together and improved so much. It was a really fun season, and I am going to miss my team who became family.”

Senior Quinn Yerk placed 38th for rebounds and 10th for blocks.

Senior Lexi Keating ended up 22nd in rebounds, 22nd in assists, 22nd in steals, and 21st in three-point shots made.

Keating said, “I am really going to miss playing with all of the teammates I have been playing with since eighth grade.”

The girl’s record ended up being 5-24.
