Lady Bowlers roll on in conference

The Lady Bucs bowling team beat the Freeport Pretzels by 81 pins on Jan. 11 at Four Seasons. Senior Elyce Turnipseed led with a 600 series.

Turnipseed said, “We all come together as a family once the season starts. We learn to pick each other up and laugh at our mistakes.”

The team also beat Guilford on Jan. 8 by 218 pins. Senior Lexy Sherman led the way with a 606 series and a high game of 211.

Sherman said, “I have improved so much and I’m so proud of everything I have accomplished so far. I’m also really proud of my team and all the work they have put in.”

The varsity girls took sixth place at the Buccaneer Invitational on Jan. 5. Sherman had a high game of 235. Turnipseed had a high series of 1,140.

Head Coach Mr. Andy Werhane said, “The Freeport match was a tough battle from start to finish. Lexy was away for the night, so we brought up Junior Hailey Schloskey, and she filled in very well in her stead. Our team battled against Freeport on tough lane conditions and pulled out on top. I’m proud of our girls for that performance.”

In a match Jan. 15, the Lady Bucs lost a close match to Rockford East, 3,200 to 3,162. Senior Christina Simon led the way with a 643 series with games of 232, 194, and 217. Teammate Turnipseed added a 566 series with games of 201, 183, and 182.

Werhane said, “the Erabs had a heck of a day. Congratulations to the Erabs.”

The lady bucs had a match against Boylan where they won, 3,332 to 2,382. Simon led the team with a 593 series. Sherman followed be hide with a 579 series.

The girls have their next tournament on Jan. 19 at Viking Lanes, starting at 9 a.m.
