Boys Swimming dives into victory

The boys swimming and diving team competed on Dec. 16 placing second at the Annual Lopin Relays. The team was lead by North Swimmers Devin Green and Daryl Kay in the 2 x 200 freestyle Relay. Green and Kay also set meet records in two freestyles. The team also set a team record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.06.

On Dec. 15 at the East High School, they finished second out of six teams. Sophomore Daniel Golonka and North swimmers Green, Oryi Tucker, and Kay set a new team record for the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.62.

“All 17 of the boys who swam had at least one best time of the season so far,” said Coach David Graffy.

The team competed against Jefferson and Boylan on Dec. 6. They won nine out of the 11 events. They beat Jefferson 137-20 but came up short against Boylan losing 87-83.

Assistant coach Allison Smith said, “Swimmers are beating their times, breaking records, and coming in first in multiple events. A goal for the end of the season is to make it to state.”

The boys’ swimming and diving team started off their season on Dec. 1 at the Harlem Invite. Varsity finished third out of nine teams. They won five out of the 12 events.

The boys’ next meet is on Dec. 20 against Guilford and Harlem.
