Belvidere and Belvidere North’s co-op wrestling team won in their first meet 72-3 at Belvidere North against Auburn on Nov. 20.

In their first ever meet as a co-op team, Belvidere had a lot more wrestlers to choose from, as Auburn only had five wrestlers.

BHS sophomore Josh Pizano took part in the win, as he won his respective match.

“After working hard all off-season myself and as a team, it felt good to win as a team and to win my first match,” he said.

In addition to Pizano, another BHS wrestler to win was freshman Jake Bell. It was his first ever varsity wrestling match.

Their next meet is Nov. 29 at Belvidere North against Guilford and Freeport at 5:30 p.m.

“I feel good about the upcoming meet, we got a full lineup this year so we won’t be giving up any free points, so we can be competitive with all the teams we face,” senior BHS wrestler Glenn Winchel said.
