The boy’s basketball team kicked off their season at the 56th annual Leland G. Strombom Holiday Tournament. They went 0-4 but lost many close games.  The tournament was at Sycamore High School starting on Monday, Nov.19 through Saturday, Nov. 24.

Coach Brian Koehne said, “It was a good learning experience for us as a team. It was the first time we were all able to be together in competition and we learned a lot about how we need to compete and what it takes to win. We didn’t have the success that we wanted, but we were able to progress throughout the tournament.”

The boys lost their first game 51-45 to the host Sycamore. Seniors Zach Tobler and Adrion Dalipi both had a high score of 12 points that game. Junior Zarius Dent had a total of 10 points.

Senior Adrion Dalipi said, “It’s unfortunate that we didn’t come back with a win from that tournament, but we definitely took big steps on the right track. We are starting to really grasp this new system and are really coming together as a team.”

The team also had losses to Rochelle and tournament Champs Dundee Crown. Senior Austin Hausen scored 20 points against Rochelle, and senior Camryn Taylor scored 11 points.

The Bucs lost a heartbreaker in OT to Genoa-Kingston 72-71. Tobler scored 23 points. Tobler scored a total of 50 points in the four games.

Senior Zach Tobler said, “We showed some great improvement from last year. All the games were close. We just need to work on some little things, and we will be there.”

Their first home game is Friday Nov.30 vs. Harlem. The theme is USA.
