Hometown Christmas brings new festivities this year

Hometown Christmas is a yearly tradition in the town of Belvidere. On Friday, Dec. 1 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m., downtown Belvidere the Christmas festivities begin.

Hometown Christmas is a time when kids and families in the Belvidere Community come together, and celebrate Christmas under they city lights.

Senior Aly Myers said, “I always take a picture by the big Christmas tree.”

Some of the Christmas festivities include the lighting of the town Christmas tree, horse carriage rides and painted windows painted by local schools and ice skating at the local ice skating rink.

Junior Marisol Carranza said, “My favorite part about Hometown Christmas is the horse carriage rides.”

There are some new events coming to Hometown Christmas this year. The new events include a scavenger hunt, reindeer games, food trucks, magician Zack Percell and movie clips on an outdoor screen.

Senior Mariah Perez said,  “I am excited to spend time with my family at Hometown Christmas.”

Another activity is the light parade downtown at 5:30 pm on Dec. 1, at Madison Street and State Street to the Community Building.
