The Lady Bucs softball team opened up NIC-10 conference play with a crosstown match up with Belvidere North and a home game against Jefferson.

The girls took a 13-7 loss to open up conference against North. Jade Schwebke was the losing pitcher of the game. Senior Katelyn Wingren went 1-3 and junior Avry Blume went 1-2.

“It wasn’t our best start to conference, but it showed us what we need to work and improve on,” said junior Mallory Gibbons.

In their next game on April. 12, the team took on Jefferson and beat them 21-0. Schwebke had seven strikeouts in three innings while Blume went 1-2 with a triple and four RBIs. Senior Reyna Rodriguez also helped with a 3-3 day with four RBIs.

“This game gave the girls some confidence and hopefully we can bring the confidence into the next game,” said senior MacKenzie Beattie.

Next match up is on Friday April. 13 against Auburn.
