The Bucs Baseball team rallied to a win Thursday, March 23, against the DeKalb Barbs. The varsity baseball team defended Ken Anderson Field, defeating DeKalb 4-3 in walk off fashion.

Senior second baseman Lucas Haug hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Bucs their first victory.

“We got plenty of guys who could have stepped up in that situation. I’m just glad I was able to cap off the rally and get us in the win column,” said Haug.

The Bucs traveled to Hampshire High School on Wednesday, March 21, to play the Hampshire Whips. The Bucs lost by 10 runs, with the final score, 14-4 Hampshire.

“We weren’t prepared for that game mentally or physically. But there are no excuses for losing by 10 runs,” said senior pitcher Jacob Taft.

Senior Catcher Jacob Popovich was behind the plate, catching for Taft.

“Taft pitched pretty well, a few mistakes here and there. Our bats however didn’t come through for him,” said Popovich.

The Bucs hosted their home opener at Ken Anderson Field against the Harvard Hornets. The varsity baseball squad couldn’t come up with the win, as they lost 3-0.

Senior Anthony Radaha went 2-for-3 at the plate, recording a triple. Radaha also helped out taft on the mound, pitching five innings.

The next games for the baseball team will come on Saturday, March 24 at Rock Falls-Hinders Field.
